Double electrode DC Electric Arc Furnace

Aluminum oxide hollow sphere is a new type of high-temperature insulation material, which is made by melting and blowing industrial aluminum oxide in an electric furnace. The crystal form is a-Al2O3 microcrystals. Using alumina hollow balls as the main body, various shapes of products can be made, with a maximum operating temperature of 1800 ℃. The mechanical strength of the products is high, several times that of ordinary lightweight products, and the volume density is only half of that of corundum products.

The production process of alumina hollow balls requires a series of processes, including melting, spraying, screening, and packaging.
The raw material for molten alumina hollow spheres is industrial alumina containing over 98% alumina, which is usually obtained by pyrolysis of high-purity aluminum or bauxite. Firstly, industrial alumina is placed in a DC electric Arc Furnace for high-temperature melting. DC electric arc furnace is a high-temperature electric furnace that converts electrical energy into thermal energy through arc discharge, melting alumina into a liquid state. During the melting process, some fluxes and stabilizers can be added to increase the melting temperature and stabilize the melt pool.
After high-temperature melting, the molten alumina is sprayed out through a nozzle to form a hollow alumina ball. This process requires the use of compressed air or oxygen to spray liquid alumina into small balls. During the spraying process, it is necessary to control the flow rate and pressure of the nozzle to ensure that the size and shape of the alumina hollow ball are consistent.
Screening will be carried out on the sprayed alumina hollow balls to ensure a ball breaking rate of within 10%. During the screening process, different screen sizes are required to separate alumina hollow spheres with different diameters.

The selected alumina hollow balls will be classified by model for packaging, then packaged and finally stored in the warehouse. During the packaging process, moisture-proof and shockproof packaging materials need to be used to ensure the quality and stability of alumina hollow balls.

Equipment characteristics

3.Compared with AC furnace, it eliminates the investment of reactive power compensation device.

5.In the smelting process, metal ions in the melt will be concentrated around the negative electrode due to electrolysis, so as to improve the yield and purity of products, which is more conducive to the enrichment of precious metals and other high-value metals.


6.The current direction and electromagnetic field direction of DC furnace remain unchanged. Driven by the magnetic field, the molten slurry circulates in one direction all the time, forming electromagnetic stirring, so that the material melts without dead corners, the product quality is high, and the yield is high.


7.When an accident occurs in the smelting process and a power failure occurs for a period of time, an insulating hard shell will be formed on the surface of the molten liquid. 

Facing this situation, the double electrode DC furnace can start arc smelting again by adding arc striking materials such as coke at the bottom of the electrode.
