Double electrode DC Electric Arc Furnace

100~20000kVA

The DC electric Arc Furnace body is in the shape of a teapot and is a steelmaking reaction vessel. The furnace body is composed of a furnace body and a furnace cover (top). The outer shell of the furnace body is made of steel plate, and the inner lining is the furnace lining. The furnace wall is constructed with magnesium bricks (MgO) or chromium magnesium bricks (Cr2O3, MgO). The bottom of the furnace is in a bowl shape, and there is a layer of magnesia sand sintering (compaction) on top of clay bricks and magnesia bricks. The acid furnace lining is constructed with quartz bricks (SiO2) and quartz sand. In addition to basic requirements for strength, high temperature resistance, and insulation, refractory materials for furnace lining should also be able to withstand chemical erosion of slag, thermal shock caused by repeated and rapid changes in furnace temperature, and collision between furnace material blocks and operating machinery. The furnace door and steel tapping groove are respectively located at both ends of the diameter of the furnace body. The furnace door frame and door cover are both cooled by water, and the contact between the two is tight to maintain the reducing atmosphere inside the furnace. The steel outlet is blocked with crushed dolomite, and steel is chiseled open with a steel chisel during steel tapping. For the convenience of operation, a large capacity electric arc furnace has a second furnace door, which is 90 degrees away from the first door. Settings. The furnace cover is embedded with high alumina bricks or chromium magnesium bricks in the steel furnace cover ring, forming an arch shape. The furnace cover ring is located on the furnace wall, and there is a sand seal at the contact area with the furnace body shell. Its function is also to maintain the sealing of the furnace and facilitate the alignment of the furnace cover. Three electrodes are inserted into the furnace through three equally spaced water-cooled sealing rings (electrode holes) in the center of the furnace cover. Electrodes should have good conductivity, sufficient mechanical strength, and a stable structure resistant to thermal shock, with minimal impurities. High quality graphite electrodes are often used in actual production. Both ends of each electrode are made into male and female threads to facilitate electrode connection. Due to inevitable high temperature oxidation, thermal collapse, and mechanical damage, the average electrode consumption per ton of steel is 3-7kg.
The mechanical equipment of the furnace is designed and configured above, below, and on the side of the furnace body according to the needs and convenience of steelmaking operations. The side of the steel outlet groove on the furnace is called the furnace rear, and the side of the furnace door is called the furnace front. On one side of the furnace body, there are three electrode pillars, each of which is equipped with an electrode lifting column. The lifting column has a horizontal electrode cross arm, and its end is a water-cooled electrode clamp, which clamps the electrodes that extend into the furnace. The function of the electrode lifting column is to adjust the length of the arc in the furnace (change the power), respond promptly and quickly to accidental factors that affect the arc power in the furnace, and maintain the stability of the given arc power in each process stage. The driving and direction of the lifting column are determined by the deviation between the actual power and the given power, using instructions provided by the automatic control system. There is a cantilever or gantry type small platform between the furnace cover and the electrode cross arm, where the electrodes are connected and the opening and closing mechanism for placing the furnace top is placed. The small furnace does not have this platform, and the electrodes are connected on the furnace top. The furnace body is placed on the tilting furnace seat below it. The upper platform of the furnace seat is the steelmaking operation platform. The furnace seat is loaded on a concrete foundation and meshes with the horizontal rail beam on the foundation through an arc-shaped beam. The operation of the tilting mechanism can make the furnace body, together with the electrode column system, tilt towards the rear of the furnace for steel tapping or towards the front of the furnace for slag tapping as a whole. A railway line is laid between concrete foundations, and steel ladle and slag trucks enter and exit along this line.
The design and configuration of mechanical equipment vary significantly depending on the capacity of the furnace. Small furnaces can usually be loaded manually or with a loading machine by the furnace door; And large furnaces are usually loaded from the top of the furnace with material baskets.

Driven by the magnetic field, the molten slurry circulates in one direction all the time, forming electromagnetic stirring, so that the material melts without dead corners, the product quality is high, and the yield is high.


7.When an accident occurs in the smelting process and a power failure occurs for a period of time, an insulating hard shell will be formed on the surface of the molten liquid. 

Facing this situation, the double electrode DC furnace can start arc smelting again by adding arc striking materials such as coke at the bottom of the electrode.
